Laboratory for Complex Mechanical Tests
Room JK008 bis
About:
The laboratory has experience in mechanical characterization of all classes of materials: metals and alloys, ceramics, polymers and composites.
The equipment allows performing static tests: tension, compression and flexure and dynamic, the Charpy impact test.
Staff:
Prof. Ph. D. Eng.
Ion CIUCA
Lecturer Ph. D. Eng.
Octavian TRANTE
Assistant Ph. D. Eng.
Robert CIOCOIU
Expertise:
Standard tensile, compression and flexure tests on all classes of materials
Non-standardized mechanical tests on products
Charpy impact tests
Universal Testing Machine, hydraulic, max. 300kN
Tensile tests:
Standard tensile specimens according to ASTM E8/E8M, ISO 6892- 1/2009
Non standard specimens limited by grip fixtures
Hydraulic serrated grips for flat specimens 0-14mm thick, and for round specimens 5-26mm in diameter
For composites tabbed ends recommended
Compression tests:
Compression specimens according to ASTM E9
Non standard specimens limited by compression platens dimensions, max. 140mm diameter
Flexure tests, three point bending:
Standard specimens according to ISO 178, ASTM D790
Non standard specimens limited by fixture dimensions: maximum load 100kN, span length max. 280mm
Charpy pendulum, 300J nominal energy
Samples according to ASTM A370, EN 10045-1, ISO 148
Energy can be controlled by integrated controls
Education
the equipment is used in training students in performing mechanical tests and interpreting results
